About & how to play

What this is

Moon Clicker is a free idle game about a Moon that has not changed size. You poke it, and then you employ an amateur astronomer to poke it for you. Then a suspiciously powerful telescope, a speculative treeline, a tide department, a werewolf focus group and, eventually, a Moon Enlargement Division that has never enlarged the Moon.

The currency is Bigness, and Bigness is how enormous the Moon is reported to be. That is the joke, and it is also the answer the study next door spends four receipts on: reported appearance is one measurement, and it is not the same thing as the physical size of the Moon or its width in a photograph. Every department in the game produces reports. Not one of them produces a larger Moon.

How it plays

Poking the Moon files one report. Your balance is visible from the start; at twenty-five pokes the Moon suggests, not warmly, that somebody else could be doing this. From there it is ten departments, twenty-five improvements, a record of forty-three things you have done and a ledger of things nobody asked to know. Leaving is fine: the departments carry on filing for up to twelve hours while you are away, and the desk will tell you what happened.

It runs in the browser, it saves as you go, it plays by keyboard alone, and it never asks you to click quickly. There is no account, no download and nothing to buy. Progress lives in this browser and can be exported as a line of text from the desk, which is very much the spirit of a page whose answer arrives as four receipts.
